BOULDER, Colo.—An overflow crowd attended a memorial service Friday for a University of Colorado student killed in Mexico.

Twenty-one-year-old David Parrish was a Boulder High School graduate.

He was shot March 26 while on spring break in Puerto Vallarta.

Officials said he was shot as he tried to prevent two men from robbing his mother, Janet Graaff, who’s an instructor at CU.

The suspect in the fatal shooting, Alfonso Ramirez, has been freed from jail. Earlier this week, two Mexican judges said he was released accidentally.

Parrish was a world traveler who had visited Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America and Canada. His younger sister says he always pushed her to face her fears.
