A Colorado Springs police officer fired his gun at a suspect last night and hit a house instead.

Police say an officer was patrolling the Sand Creek Division about 9:30 last night when he saw a car with two men in it driving with its lights off.

The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver went into an alley in the 2800 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue. It slowed down, and the driver and passenger jumped out and started running.

The officer yelled at them to stop and chased them on foot, police said this morning in a news release. The officer fired one shot at the fleeing passenger. The bullet went into a house but didn’t injure anyone.

More officers arrived, and the passenger was caught. Police said today he hasn’t been charged with a crime. The driver is still at large.

No additional details were available, police said.
