COUDERSPORT, Pa. — The headquarters John Rigas built for Adelphia Communications, called “the Taj Mahal” by neighbors in Coudersport, Pa., sold Friday for $3.5 million after an Internet auction, according to public records.

The 72,056-square-foot, three-story office building is a lasting monument to the company that before scandal and bankruptcy was the fifth-largest U.S. cable TV provider and the largest employer in the town of 2,650.

The building had a suggested value of $30 million, said Newport Beach, Calif.-based LFC Group of Cos., which conducted the auction.
