MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah—Authorities say a pilot survived the crash of a small plane in southeastern Utah near the Arizona border.

The Civil Air Patrol says the single-engine plane crashed Sunday near Nokai Dome, a mountain in San Juan County.

Capt. Steve Hamilton of the air patrol in Colorado says the plane flipped when the pilot tried to land in a remote area. He says the flight originated in Durango in Colorado.

Hamilton says the pilot had no major injuries. A National Park Service helicopter took him to Bullfrog, Utah.

No one else was on the plane, a Maule M-7-235C, and the pilot’s name was not released.
