Lisa Snider, executive director of the Colorado Ballet, announced today that she plans to retire. To give the company time to find a replacement, she will remain in her position through December.

After serving on the company’s board of trustees, Snider took over as interim executive director in April 2005 and was later given a permanent appointment.

During her tenure, she focused on bringing financial stability to the company. The ballet has finished in the black the past two years and substantially reduced its cumulative debt. She also played a key role in the hiring of Gil Boggs as the company’s artistic director in March 2006.

“Now that Gil Boggs has been here two years, the board has grown, the union agreement with the dancers is completed and relationships with our stakeholders are good,” Snider said in a press statement. “The transition is nearly complete and the next phase will benefit from new leadership.”

Key members of the ballet’s board of trustees will begin a search for Snider’s replacement in June, and she will play a active role in the process.
