DENVER—State lawmakers are considering whether to update the law governing massage therapists.
A bill scheduled for a hearing Wednesday would require massage therapists to apply for state licenses. They would also have to be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.
Therapists could be disciplined if they fail to refer a client to a doctor if they need medical care or if they engage in a sex act with a client.
The current law is called the Colorado Massage Parlor Code. The new one would be called the Massage Therapy Practice Act.
