Authorities have released the names of a man and a woman killed Saturday when a minivan crowded with adults and children ran a stop sign and was broadsided by a pickup.

Thornton police also released the name of the driver, Manuel Omar Chavez-Serrano, 27, who was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license, according to a news release today by the Thornton Police Department.

Francisco Rodriquez-Reyes, 42, and the driver’s mother, Irma Chavez-Serrano, 55, both of Commerce City, were killed in the 8:46 p.m. accident at the intersection of North Holly Street and East 160th Avenue.

Chavez-Serrano was driving south on Holly Street when he ran through a stop sign at East 160th Avenue, according to a news release by Thornton police. The van was struck by a pickup on the side.

The van was occupied by nine people including four children. Several passengers were taken to different hospitals with serious injuries, according to the news release.

Police, who are awaiting toxicology results, continue to investigate the case.
