Timothy Crouse detailed the perils of pack journalism in “The Boys on the Bus,” his book on the news media and the 1972 presidential campaign. The Huffington Post launched “Off the Bus,” a citizen journalism effort to cover the 2008 presidential campaign. But what about those folks whose statements or actions suddenly make them personae non gratae in politics? What about the bold stands once taken by politicians, now jettisoned in the ambitious flight for higher office? In other words, who and what end up “under the bus?”
