Federal funding has been allocated for a new veterans cemetery in central Colorado, Sen. Wayne Allard said Thursday after speaking with Department of Veterans Affairs officials. There is $5 million in the agency’s 2008 budget, he said, to pay for land purchase. Veterans Affairs Department officials told Allard that the cemetery is likely to be placed along the Interstate 25 corridor, somewhere between Denver and Colorado Springs so that it can serve both places. The veterans cemetery at Fort Logan is expected to reach capacity by 2020.
