GRAND JUNCTION —Vice President Dick Cheney made a brief visit to Grand Junction on Friday to raise money for Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer.
The fundraiser was at a private home and was closed to the public. Dick Wadhams, Schaffer’s campaign manager, said he did not immediately know how much money was raised.
Schaffer, a former congressman, is expected to face Democratic Rep. Mark Udall in a hotly contested race this fall.
Cheney’s plane landed at Grand Junction Regional Airport at about 11 a.m.
Hundreds of well-wishers and protesters turned out in hopes of getting a glimpse of Cheney or his motorcade.
Police Officer T.J. Rix said two protesters were arrested when they sat down in a street and refused orders to move. Rix said they were issued citations for obstructing a roadway and released.
Cheney’s plane departed shortly after 1 p.m.
