While Denver warmed under partly sunny skies today, a nasty spring snowstorm blew through Monument Hill around noon, contributing to a 20-vehicle pileup just south of the hill.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 25 were closed for roughly an hour as law enforcement and tow trucks cleared the highway. The roadway reopened around 1 p.m.

The Colorado State Patrol reported there were some injuries, “minor to moderate in nature.”

The cause of the crash has not been determined. But weather conditions were severe, with heavy, wet snow and strong winds making visibility difficult at best. Also, the wet roadway caused windshields to blur and fog up.
