BOULDER — A fraternity that lost its University of Colorado charter in 2002 for alcohol and hazing rules violations will be reinstated this fall.

Kappa Sigma began reorganizing under new leadership in 2006 and now has 65 members, who will soon be allowed to move into the fraternity house on University Hill in Boulder.

The board of Boulder’s Interfraternity Council unanimously agreed at its meeting Wednesday to reinstate Kappa Sigma as a full voting member of the council, which has oversight of 15 fraternities.

The chapter was temporarily shut down in 2001 following a party where police cited 13 people for underage drinking and found children as young as 15 at the gathering. Members were caught a year later bringing alcohol into the suspended house and hazing new members. Those violations prompted the national headquarters to revoke the Boulder chapter’s charter.
