A mudslide between Avon and Minturn just before noon today has closed U.S. 6.
Traffic is being routed to Interstate 70, Vail dispatch reports. The road will remain closed for a few days, said Martha Miller, Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman.
The slide, which covered a small stretch of the road in one lane, isn’t that serious, Miller said. But CDOT wants to be sure that the slope above the road is stable before allowing traffic on the highway.
“When we take the material (that slid) out the slope becomes more unstable. Safety first,” Miller said.
There were no reports of injuries or cars being hit by the slide.
