Greening of an American icon
Remember Radio Flyer’s Country Squire? This version lets you haul paper cups to the lemonade stand in green style. Each of the little green Earth Wagons, made by Plastic Lumber Specialties in Glen Allen, Va., diverts the equivalent of 230 1-gallon milk jugs from landfills. The wagons are 36 inches long; the green sides are removable just like the original’s. The color is fused throughout the plastic, so this human- powered vehicle never needs painting. $150 at greenhome . Susan Clotfelter

A new “Garden Primer”
Twenty years ago, Barbara Damrosch’s “The Garden Primer” took many a budding gardener by the hand and down the planting path. A revised and updated edition for 2008 has gone all-organic with new plans, new plants and a focus on sustainability. Though Damrosch’s farm and gardens are in Maine, many of her tips on everything from compost to tree pruning will apply wherever you garden. Damrosch will sign and discuss the book at 7:30 p.m. April 24 at the Tattered Cover, 2526 E. Colfax Ave.
