NEW DELHI, India — Thousands of police patrolled central New Delhi, guarding against anti-China protests for the Olympic torch relay today in India, the heart of the world’s Tibetan exile community.

About 100 Tibetan exiles tried to breach the security cordon Wednesday around the Chinese Embassy, and police dragged away about 50 of them.

Protests are expected to begin early today before the scheduled 4 p.m. (4:30 a.m. MDT) start of the relay.

In Pakistan, runners carried the Olympic flame around the outside of the Jinnah Stadium in the capital, Islamabad, on Wednesday — an invitation-only event in front of a sparse crowd with heavy security. The Associated Press
