DENVER—A state legislator who wants to set regulations for how energy companies dispose of liquid waste after drilling for natural gas will have to wait another year to introduce a bill targeting the industry.
Grand Junction Democratic Rep. Bernie Buescher says he requested to introduce a bill that would force energy companies to put wastewater pits far away from homes and ensure groundwater is not contaminated.
Energy companies use the pits to dump liquid waste from gas drilling.
Colorado Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff says the Legislature won’t be able to accommodate Buescher’s late-bill request this session.
