Getting your player ready...

Playing in front of the home folks appeals to Texan Brad Hawpe. More than 100 friends and family members watched the Rockies outfielder Saturday night in Houston and another big group of Hawpe rooters showed up at Minute Maid Park on Sunday. Hawpe didn’t disappoint, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. The native of Fort Worth has five hits in his past seven at-bats, raising his average from .188 to .246.

Barmes bonus.

After sitting out the first two games of the Houston series, Jayson Nix started at second base in front of the sizzling Clint Barmes. But Barmes still made his presence felt Sunday. Having replaced Nix, he led off the seventh inning with a double and scored on Troy Tulowitzki’s single, giving the Rockies a short-lived 4-3 lead. Barmes is hitting .389.

Bourn to shine.

The Rockies came away impressed with young Astros outfielder Michael Bourn. Although Bourn went hitless Sunday, he went 1-for-4 and stole two bases Saturday night, giving him 11 swipes in the early going. “That guy disrupts things, kind of like Willy (Taveras) does for us,” manager Clint Hurdle said.
