An inmate at the Boulder jail who tried to kill himself after being accused of driving away in a stolen ambulance died today.

Mickey Terry, 36, had tied a sheet to the top bunk and around his neck in his cell Friday. A deputy found him and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The Boulder County coroner said in a release Terry died early this morning.

Terry was arrested April 15. Police said he stole an ambulance as he was leaving a Lafayette hospital, then led officers on a high-speed 13-mile chase before rear-ending a parked car, tearing up a traffic signal and fleeing on foot.

The empty ambulance was parked outside the emergency room at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital with the keys in the ignition when Terry left the facility.

He faced felony charges including aggravated motor theft and reckless driving.
