Nearly a week after his body turned up in an alley in Aurora, Nathaniel Dewayne Brison’s death is still a mystery to investigators.

“We don’t know what happened to this guy,” said Detective Bob Friel of the 47-year-old Aurora resident whose body was found April 16 near 11th Avenue and Jamaica Street.

“We believe there’s someone out there that has to know something about how this man died, and we’re hoping someone will come forward.”

An autopsy proved inconclusive, and Brison’s injuries are not consistent with death, Friel said, declining to elaborate about those injuries.

“The trauma seen by investigators doesn’t necessarily he was a victim of a crime,” Friel said.

He said investigators are withholding details that might compromise the case.

The case is being classified a suspicious death.

Anyone with information can call Detective Tom Wilson at 303-739-6711 or Sgt. Scott Pendleton at 303-739-6092.

According to public records, Brison has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1980, including arrests for assault, domestic violence, disturbing the peace, drug and alcohol charges and failing to appear for court dates in Aurora and Denver. He has given the police several aliases and dates of birth, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
