Consider Tuesday night a snapshot of Jeff Baker’s transition to second base. The new position allowed him to find a spot in the Rockies’ lineup. Making just his third career start there, he delivered two hits. But he also failed to convert a double play in the fourth inning when he missed the bag on his pivot, and he airmailed a throw into the dugout in the sixth. Baker spent his offseason in a crash course to relearn second base, a position he hadn’t played since youth baseball. Clint Barmes moved over to second in the seventh inning, with Troy Tulowitzki taking over at shortstop.
Daily duty.
Garrett Atkins is the only Rockie to start every game this season. He’s not coming out anytime soon after homering for the fourth time in five games.
