DENVER—An agency that helps Colorado students get to college is warning its customers to be wary of identity theft after a hard drive with personal information was lost.
Officials with CollegeInvest, an independent enterprise of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, said Tuesday the hard drive was lost when the organization moved recently.
The group is mailing letters this week informing customers about what personal information was stored on the drive and telling them how to monitor for identity theft.
The organization says it’s unlikely the information could be compromised because the drive is password-protected and because data was stored in format that would be difficult to access.
