BOULDER, Colo.—A Lafayette engineer has become the first Republican to enter what’s already become a crowded race to represent Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District.

Scott Starin quietly began his campaign for the U.S. House seat last week. Starin is a project manager and electronics systems engineer with Ball Aerospace & Technologies in Boulder.

He filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on April 14.

Starin writes on his campaign Web site that he’s frustrated with partisan bickering in Congress, and that there are too many assaults on the liberties of Americans—including taxes.

Joan Fitz-Gerald, Larry Johnson, Jared Polis and Will Shafroth are vying for the Democratic nomination to replace Democrat Mark Udall, who’s running for Senate.
