BOULDER, Colo.—A man accused of stealing an ambulance in Lafayette and who later attempted suicide in his cell at the Boulder County jail has died of his injuries.
Coroner Thomas Faure says 35-year-old Mickey Terry died early Tuesday of asphyxia by hanging.
A deputy sheriff doing routine cell checks Friday found Terry tied a sheet to his top bunk and around his neck to try to hang himself. Sheriff’s officials say deputies and jail medical staff who performed CPR were able to establish a heartbeat.
Terry was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
He was arrested April 15 in Longmont after the stolen ambulance crashed.
Police say he’d been released from a Lafayette hospital when he apparently jumped into an ambulance whose crew was taking another patient inside.
