A 25-year-old officer-in-training for the city of Parachute has been arrested for investigation of felony sexual assault.
Gail Nichols, chief deputy district attorney in Aspen, identified the man as Kristopher Duncan.
Duncan was formally advised in Aspen on Monday of the investigation. He was brought to the Aspen jail from Parachute for security reasons, Nichols said.
After posting his $7,500 bail, he was released and ordered to appear in Garfield County Court in Glenwood Springs at 1:30 p.m. April 30, said Nichols.
Duncan will learn then what, if any charges, have been filed against him, said the prosecutor.
Nichols said the incident allegedly occurred on April 18 and involved an adult, although she declined to say whether the alleged victim was male or female.
Parachute Town Administrator Robert Knight said Duncan was hired Feb. 1 and was terminated April 18.
“I released him from employment. An arrest of this nature is a violation of the code of conduct,” said Knight. “We find the allegations very disturbing, and our hearts go out to all involved.”
The town of Parachute has about 1,400 residents and eight police officers.
