DENVER—A group opposing the Army’s planned expansion of a training site in southeast Colorado says it will file a lawsuit seeking disclosure of the project’s impacts.
The group, called “Not 1 More Acre,” plans to file the suit in Denver federal court on Wednesday. It will ask the military to disclose the expected environmental, cultural and socioeconomic impacts of the expansion of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site.
The Army’s proposal would almost triple the size of the site to about 1,000 square miles. The Army says it needs the room to train more soldiers on new weapons and tactics.
Opponents say the Army hasn’t demonstrated that it needs the expansion. They worry about the effects on the economy if the land is lost to agriculture.
The site is used by soldiers at Fort Carson.
