BROOMFIELD — A police impersonator turned rapist Tuesday, Broomfield police said.
A woman was pulled over on U.S. 287 near Nickel Street about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday by a white or gray car that appeared to have police markings and a light bar on top. The car was driven by a man wearing a blue or gray police uniform, including a badge and gun, police said.
The man got the woman’s driver’s license, went to his car and returned to say she was wanted on a warrant and should follow him.
She followed him to a dirt parking lot in a light industrial area near FlatIron Crossing Mall and U.S. 36. The police impersonator ordered the woman into his car, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.
She drove herself to Boulder to report the attack to Boulder police.
The man is described as white with short, medium-colored blond hair. He is believed to be between 45 and 55 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing 150 to 175 pounds. He did not have facial hair and his eyes were either blue or gray, police said.
