The first major construction on FasTracks begins next week when work begins on the Kipling Street bridge, RTD said today.

Fastracks is RTD’s $4.7 billion construction plan approved by voters in 2004 to build 122 miles of new light rail and commuter rail, 18 miles of bus rapid transit service, 57 new transit stations, more than 21,000 parking spaces at transit park-n-rides and redevelopment of Denver’s Union Station.

The Kipling bridge will be one of five to go up on the 12.1-mile West Corridor between Denver Union Station downtown to the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, serving Denver, Lakewood, the Denver Federal Center and Jefferson County.

The corridor is scheduled to open 2013. Fastracks has a 2017 completion date.
