Upside: Could be Tom Nalen’s successor, but has the versatility to play center or guard in the Broncos’ system.

Round 4 (119th overall pick): CB Jack Williams
Kent State, 5-9, 186 pounds
Measurables: 4.32 in 40-yard dash; 19 225-pound bench-press reps at the scouting combine, fifth-most among CBs; vertical jump of 35 1/2 inches.
Vital statistics: Intercepted 13 passes in four seasons. . . . Was a factor blitzing off the corner, racking up three sacks as a junior, 6 1/2 tackles for losses as a senior. . . . Made five starts as a redshirt freshman, then started full time in final three years.
Honors: Voted Kent State’s DB of the year three times and special-teams player of the year as a junior. . . . Second-team all-MAC as a senior.
High school days: All-state DB as a senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Va. . . . Had 10 interceptions, scored 10 touchdowns as a senior.
Upside: Short, but he can run with NFL wideouts. Provides protection for Broncos if Domonique Foxworth leaves via free agency after 2008 season.
FYI: Hard hitter who as a junior tied for the lead in the nation with five forced fumbles.
Round 5 (139th overall pick): TB Ryan Torain
Arizona State, 6-1, 222 pounds
Measurables: 4.56 in 40-yard dash, vertical jump of 34 inches, 340-pound bench press.
Vital statistics: Injury prone, as witnessed by this stat: Never started more than eight games at ASU or Butler (Kan.) Community College. . . . Blew away scouts in first year with Sun Devils, running for 739 yards, 6.8 per carry and 11 TDs in eight games. . . . 110 carries, 553 yards, 5.0 per, five TDs as a senior, missing half the season with a fractured toe.
Honors: Second-team all-Pac 10 in 2005.
High school days: Ran for 1,600-plus yards as a senior at Shawnee Mission (Kan.) . . . Once scored five TDs in the first half of a game . . . All-state Class 6A tailback as a senior.
Upside: Forget all the numbers and draft cliches. The bottom line is this: Any tailback drafted by Mike Shanahan has a chance to be a player.
FYI: The Torain Train may have had the coolest nickname in the draft.
Round 5 (148th overall pick): DT Carlton Powell
Virginia Tech, 6-3, 300 pounds
Measurables: 4.87 in 40-yard dash, vertical jump of 29 inches, 31 225-pound bench-press reps at the combine.
Vital statistics: Designated run stuffer on defense that led the nation in total “D” twice (2005 and 2006) and in scoring defense in 2006. . . . 39 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks as a senior. . . . In 109 running plays directed at him, Powell’s tackles resulted in minus-15 yards.
Honors: Second team all-ACC by the NFL Draft Report in 2007. . . . Earned the President’s Award in 2006 for his leadership on defense, and twice won the Frank O. Moseley Award as the top hustler on Hokies’ defense.
High school days: Played inside linebacker in first three years before moving to defensive tackle as a senior. . . . An all-Atlantic Region choice by Prep Star magazine at Great Bridge (Chesapeake, Va.) High School.
Upside: Run-stuffing ability will give him a chance to join defensive line rotation.

Arizona, 6-2, 243 pounds
Measurables: 4.68 in 40-yard dash, 355-pound bench press. . . . Academic all-Pac 10 with a 3.65 GPA. . . . 24 years old, having spent two years in Chile on a Mormon mission.
Vital statistics: Tackle totals rose every year: 41, 51, 89, 131. . . . Had four sacks, four fumble recoveries and an interception as a senior. . . . Collected double-digit tackles in seven games in 2007.
Honors: Rivals.com first-team all-American as a senior. . . . Second-team all-conference as a junior . . . The NFL Draft Report’s 2007 Pac-10 defensive player of the year.
High school days: Earned Super Prep All-Farwest honors as a senior at Highland High in Gilbert, Ariz. . . . All-Region co-defensive MVP and all-Southeast Valley selection who played linebacker and quarterback.
Upside: Special-teams contributor who provides depth at linebacker and maybe, just maybe, could wind up at fullback.

Round 7 (220th overall pick): FS Josh Barrett
Arizona State, 6-2, 223 pounds
Measurables: 4.35 in 40-yard dash, 17 225-pound bench-press reps at the combine, vertical jump of 31 1/2 inches.
Vital statistics: 38 tackles, one interception as a senior. . . . Recovered a fumble, broke up a pass vs. Colorado. . . . Had eight tackles and an interception in 2006 Hawaii Bowl.
Honors: Received ASU’s Cecil Abono team captain award. . . . Named ASU’s defensive MVP as a junior. . . . Earned team’s Hard Hat Player award for his work in the Sun Devils’ offseason conditioning program.
High school days: Named the 2002 Northern Class 4A player of the year in Nevada while playing at Reno High School. . . . Won first-team all-region honors at wide receiver, defensive back and as a return specialist. . . . Returned seven kickoffs and punts for touchdowns and scored four times on interception returns.
Upside: Big and physical player who could earn playing time down the road at a need position.
FYI: At 223 pounds, Barrett is bigger than any safety on the Broncos’ roster.
Round 7 (227th overall pick): FB Peyton Hillis
Arkansas, 6-1, 240 pounds
Measurables: 4.56 in 40-yard dash, 355-pound bench press, vertical jump of 31 inches.
Vital statistics: In addition to blocking for first-rounders Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, ranked third on the Hogs’ roster with 347 rushing yards on 62 carries (5.6 per carry). . . . Led the team for the second time in his career with 49 catches, five TDs, setting school records for fullbacks in each category. . . . Ran for 959 yards on 203 (4.7 per) in his career.
Honors: Second-team All-American, first-team all-SEC as a fullback.
High school days: Named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette state offensive player of the year as a senior. . . . Ranked by Super Prep magazine as the top fullback in the nation and the No. 1 prospect in Arkansas. . . . Parade All-American as a senior. . . . Averaged an amazing 10.1 yards on 261 carries. . . .
