Warm, dry, windy weather, with gusts up to 25 mph today on the Eastern Plains, will increase the chance of wildland fires and the weather service has issued a “red flag” fire warning for the Front Range and northeastern Colorado from 2 until 8 p.m.
The mercury in Denver today will push the 80-degree mark under sunny skies, but snow and rain is likely in the city by Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Warm, sunny weather will hold on for one more day Wednesday around most of the state, with the high temperature in Denver forecast to be about 77 degrees.
A cold front will bring dramatic change to the weather Wednesday night and high temperatures in Colorado on Thursday will take a plunge as snow flies in the Northern Mountains. Rain and possibly snow could fall on Denver and the plains Thursday, the weather service forecasts.
The high temperature Thursday in the metro area should top out at a chilly 45 degrees, the weather service said.
Winter-like conditions are expected in the mountains Wednesday night through Thursday night.
