PUEBLO, Colo.—An analysis of statewide traffic statistics shows young drivers in Pueblo County are more likely to crash than their counterparts elsewhere in Colorado.
The market research company Garner Insight analyzed state figures from 2004, the latest available. It found that Pueblo County had five of Colorado’s top 10 ZIP codes where drivers under age 21 had a better-than-average chance of being involved in an auto accident.
Drivers in two of those ZIP codes led the state with a 7 percent better-than-average chance of being involved in an auto accident. The other three ZIPs were at 6 percent above average.
School district representatives say area public schools haven’t offered driver’s education classes since at least the early 1990s.
