A Boulder climber was seriously injured Sunday after falling 100 feet in Eldorado Canyon State Park.
The Boulder County Communications Center received the report of a fallen hiker about 4:30 p.m. Emergency responders found 45-year-old Lon Abbott at the base of the Recon Wall. His climbing partner, Avery McGill, estimated that Abbott had been 100 feet up when he fell, according to a news release issued by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Abbott was airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center in serious condition with a head injury, suspected leg fracture and a shoulder injury, said Sgt. Lance Enholm.
McGill told Deputy Jeff Brunkow that while belaying for Abbott, he heard his name called and thought a rock was falling. He took cover before realizing that Abbott was falling.
