The man who was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 25 on Monday has been identified by police.

Clifford Moore, 53, of Denver was crossing the highway near Sixth Avenue at about 5 a.m. when he was hit by a Chevrolet Avalanche, police said.

Moore died at the scene. The fatal accident and a subsequent multicar wreck tied up rush hour traffic for hours, with long delays in both directions.

Investigators don’t know why Moore was crossing the highway on foot, and an investigation into his death continues, said John White, a Denver police spokesman.

No traffic citations or charges have been filed against the driver of the Chevrolet, White said.
