A registered sex offender, who led Longmont police on a chase that injured one officer, was arrested late this afternoon.

Blake Sullivan, who was wanted by the Longmont Police Department for failing to appear on a sex assault charge in Broomfield County, and for failing to appear on charges of theft and pawn shop violations in Weld County, was spotted by detectives in a parking lot at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Coffman Street in Longmont.

According to police, Sullivan was standing outside of his car after 4 p.m. when he was approached by detectives, but ran to the vehicle and quickly backed up.

Sullivan then accelerated, fish-tailing and hitting a detective.

Although the detective was spun around and complained of pain, he did not need any medical treatment, police said.

Sullivan continued south on Main Street, leading detectives east on Longs Peak Avenue, and eventually to Meeker Place and the 800 block of Hilltop Road, where he abandoned his car, and continued on foot.

Patrol officers, traffic and gang officers set up a perimeter, and a Boulder County K-9 unit assisted .

Sullivan was found hiding in a closet in a home at the 800 block of Mount Evans Street, police said. He apparently knew the home’s residents, but they said they did not know Sullivan entered their home.

Sullivan was arrested on his outstanding warrants, as well as 2nd degree assault of a police officer, felony eluding, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
