Colorado Springs starter Franklin Morales and three relievers combined for the first home no-hitter in Sky Sox history, beating Albuquerque 5-1 on Sunday in a Pacific Coast League game.
The Sky Sox walked nine batters, and the lone Isotopes run came in the fourth inning. Andrew Beattie walked, advanced to second on Ian Stewart’s throwing error, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Morales (1-0) pitched five innings, striking out three and walking six in his first start with the Sky Sox this season.
Relievers Chris George, Matt Daley and Steven Register completed the no-hitter, only the second in the franchise’s history.
The Sky Sox were led on offense by Douglas Bernier, who went 2-for-3, with a triple and two RBIs, and Stewart, who had two doubles.
CU men golfers place eighth.
The University of Colorado men’s golf team wrapped up the regular season by finishing eighth in The Maxwell tournament at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
The Buffs shot a final-round 274, the second-best score in the round, but finished 25 strokes behind tournament winner Oklahoma State.
Senior Michael Baird recorded his team-best eighth top 20 finish of the season, shooting a 214 to tie for 13th place.
Utah’s power defeats Falcons.
The Utah baseball team used three home runs to beat Air Force 12-4 on Sunday at Falcon Field.
The Falcons managed only eight hits, with Nathan Carter leading with two hits and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Matt Barattino (1-3) allowed six runs in three innings and took the loss.
Simpson tournament set.
The inaugural Mark Simpson Golf Tournament, honoring the CU men’s golf coach who died of lung cancer in December 2005, will be played May 31 at Coal Creek Golf Course in Louisville.
The tournament will benefit HealthLinks, which supports cancer patients and their families.
