Aurora police now think a traffic dispute outside an Aurora bar Sunday morning led to the shooting of two innocent bystanders.

The two women were waiting for friends outside La Sierra Bar and Grill, 2045 N. Clinton St., about 2 a.m. when at least one man began shooting.

Police originally thought the two women were caught in the crossfire of a shootout.

Detectives have found one of the vehicles involved in the shooting, a white over tan Ford pickup.

“Through an interview with the driver of that truck, and further analysis of evidence recovered at the scene, detectives now believe that contrary to initial witness reports, there was only one shooter,” said Aurora Detective Shannon Lucy.

A minor traffic altercation in the parking lot outside the bar between the drivers of the pickup and another vehicle could have sparked the shooting.

The second vehicle, a late ’90s, brown four-door SUV, that could have been a GM product, was occupied by four Latino males.

The driver of the SUV fired a handgun from within the vehicle at the driver of the pickup and struck the women.

The shooter was described as Latino, wearing a yellow shirt and a tan cowboy hat.

Each woman was shot in the upper torso. They were taken to local hospitals, where one is in stable but serious condition. The other was released.

The Aurora Police Department is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the identity and charging of a suspect in the case.
