A pilot was flying a single-engine de Havilland Venom plane when he lost power and landed in an alfalfa field a mile from the Platte Valley Airpark near Platteville, authorities say.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, walked away without injuries after crashing just before noon into an irrigation ditch and damaging the landing gear, said Margie Martinez, spokeswoman for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

“The plane is sitting on its belly in an alfalfa field,” Martinez said.

The emergency landing is under investigation.
