The University of Denver Daniels College of Business has awarded the 2007 Morton Margolin Prize for Distinguished Business Reporting to The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.

Denver Post reporters David Olinger and Aldo Svaldi won the award for their story “Heartbreak along Mockingbird Lane: Foreclosures send homeowners down uneasy streets.”

The story examined the damage a new Brighton development suffered from a surge in foreclosures. It was the start of a series examining rising foreclosures and the toll on homeowners and communities.

Rocky Mountain News reporter Gargi Chakrabarty won for “Ethanol energizes farmers.” Her story looked at how Colorado farmers were responding to the increased demand for corn to produce ethanol.

Daniels spokeswoman Julie Lucas said both stories described trends that would have a profound impact on the state.
