A 3-year-old boy at a home day-care business died after choking on a hot dog, police said.

The accident happened at about noon Friday at a home in the 6800 block of Tabor Court, according to an Arvada Police Department news release.

Kyle Cox was eating a cut-up hot dog at the licensed day care when a piece lodged in his airway, police said.

The woman providing day care, who was not identified by police, called 911 and began first aid on the child.

The toddler was taken to Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The death is under investigation but “it appears accidental,” and police do not expect any criminal charges, the release said.
