GREELEY, COLO. — A natural gas company plans to set up equipment to drill five wells under a Greeley high school.

Francis Energy says the rig will be on private property about 1,500 feet from Northridge High School and will access the well sites underground.

Representatives of the company and the Greeley-Evans school district say the project will boost the district’s coffers with royalty payments.

Matt Samelson of the nonprofit Donnell-Kay Foundation, which focuses on education, says he is concerned for the safety of the students and staff.

The school has about 1,200 students.
