BEATRICE, Neb.—Testimony has wrapped up in the murder trial of a Beatrice man accused of shooting and killing a woman last November.
The Gage County jury is expected to begin deliberating on the case Thursday.
The defendant, 43-year-old Richard Griswold, hopes the jury will agree that his actions don’t warrant a first-degree murder conviction.
Griswold doesn’t contest that he shot 49-year-old Connie Eacret at her home in Beatrice last fall. But Griswold’s attorney has tried to convince jurors that Griswold is guilty only of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
One of the witnesses testified that Eacret may have been trying to stop Griswold from shooting himself when she was shot. Griswold had been drinking and taking tranquilizers that night.
