AURORA, Colo.—An Aurora woman has been treated and released into police custody after an officer shot the apparently suicidal woman in the leg.

Police responded to a home shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday after the homeowner called authorities to report his wife had a gun and was threatening to kill herself.

Officers say that when they arrived, they tried to subdue 24-year-old Melinda Espinoza outside the home, but she pulled a gun.

One officer fired, striking her in the leg.

She was treated at a local hospital. Espinoza is being held for an outstanding traffic warrant and for allegedly violating a restraining order.

The officer who shot Espinoza is on routine administrative leave.
