Old-fashioned barn raising
Bill Taylor, an engineering-firm manager and owner of the historic Masonville schoolhouse located roughly 10 miles west of Fort Collins, along with a crew of builders and designers, will erect a traditional wood-joinery barn today, starting about 11 a.m. “The property is historic to start with,” Taylor says. “I wanted a barn with the same type of architecture.”
Using custom plans from Trail Ridge Timber Frame and Crown Jade Design and Engineering, the group will build the frame on the ground and then raise it. The public is invited to watch. The Masonville schoolhouse property is on Colorado 27, just east of the entrance to Bobcat Ridge park.
