COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments is seeking public comment until June 25 on a draft plan to deal with growth at Fort Carson.

The group says the goal of the preliminary draft plan is to maintain quality of life as the Army post Carson accepts a transfer of thousands of soldiers. The plan projects 46,000 new troops and families to arrive through 2013.

Rob O’Connor is program manager for military impact planning for the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments. He says the Colorado Springs area has enough transportation, housing and jobs to handle the influx of new residents, but more resources are needed in education, child care and social services.

The plan assesses those topics and makes recommendations.
