DENVER—Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar says the climate change bill being debated in the Senate is important but says he won’t support it unless it’s rewritten.
The Democrat said Wednesday during a phone conference that it’s clear from recent reports that climate change is already hurting Colorado and the region. The reports cite drought, insect outbreak and wildfires and predict more dry, warm weather.
But Salazar doesn’t think the proposal to cut greenhouse gases steers enough money to developing renewable energy and technology to capture carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants.
Salazar also wants more emphasis on encouraging farmers and ranchers to help reduce greenhouse gases. He says he’ll work on crafting a bipartisan bill that will pass the Senate.
