ASPEN — A fire destroyed an apartment building and has displaced more than a dozen people.
The fire broke out about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Castle Ridge Apartments, 1175 Doolittle Circle, said Deputy Chief Rick Balentine of the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a deck engulfed in flames that quickly spread to the first floor of the building, Balentine said.
No people was injured in the fire, but a cat was killed.
Firefighters kept flames from spreading to the second floor, but fire, smoke and water damage has made the 10-unit building a “total loss,” Balentine said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
