No more shades of gray. That was the idea on Jeff Baker. After this season, the Rockies want to know exactly what they have in the slugging infielder. Given extended playing time, he’s showing a powerful bat. Ten of Baker’s last 16 hits have gone for extra bases, including a home run and a double Wednesday against the Indians at Coors Field. Baker’s recent success against left-handed pitching earned him his latest start.
Tulo on track.
Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki remains on target to return Friday against the Mets. He said Wednesday that his swing “feels good” but that he remains cautious on the basepaths as he tests his left quad. “It’s OK. I haven’t gone real hard yet. Just being safe.”
Laffey can hit.
Indians left-hander Aaron Laffey recorded his first hit, singling in the third inning. In his next at-bat, Jeff Francis started him off with a curveball before Laffey flew out to deep center field.
