A man blinded by sun glare early Wednesday turned into the path a young boy riding a bicycle, authorities say.

The boy, about 10 or 11, was taken to Aurora South Hospital, where he underwent surgery, said Lt. Jim Steciuk, Aurora police spokesman.

The male driver, whose name was not released, was cited for careless driving, Steciuk said. He was heading east on Kentucky Avenue at about 10 mph when he turned left onto Buckley Road and hit the boy who was in the crosswalk riding east to west, he said.

“The driver was blinded by glare and didn’t see the boy,” Steciuk said.

The boy’s name and condition were not available today, he said.
