FORT LUPTON — Two children have died after a head-on crash in Fort Lupton.

The accident happened on Colorado 52 about 9:30 Saturday night. Police said two Toyotas crashed, killing two children in one of the vehicles. The man driving the children was airlifted to a hospital, and his passenger, a woman, was taken by ambulance.

After the initial crash, another car hit the two crashed Toyotas, pinning the woman driving the other Toyota in her car for about a half hour. She was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

9News identified those killed as Cindy Tran, 5, and Kelly Tran, 4. It identified those injured as Chau Tran, 40, of Fort Lupton, who was driving the children; his passenger Zhanzg Zhen, 40; Lisa Hood, 33, of Fort Lupton, trapped in the other Toyota; and Jeanne Sittner of Walsenburg, who was riding in the third car, which was driven by her husband, Donald Sittner, who wasn’t hurt.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have played a role in the crashes.

Authorities said this is the second serious accident at this spot in the past several months. No one was killed in the earlier accident.
