Getting your player ready...

Time’s running out to gather pledges for the 17th annual Fat Tire Classic in Winter Park this weekend.

The good news is there’s still some time left. Even better: Participants who raise $500 or more beyond the initial deposit are eligible for prizes, and those who raise $5,000 or more pick up free lodging for the weekend as well as a 2008-09 Winter Park Resort ski pass.

Best of all, the money raised goes to the National Sports Center for the Disabled and the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter. And all you have to do is ride a bike (or simply hike) in one of the most beautiful places in America.

The key is making sure you gather pledges first, then get to the starting line ready to roll before 10 a.m. Saturday. It isn’t a race, it’s a ride, with routes ranging from family fun along the paved Fraser River Trail to “Cruiser” and “Classic” trails on the mountain, depending upon your skill level. The two-day event includes five catered meals and free live music and Fat Tire Amber Ale at the Saturday night celebration, as well as two Saturday afternoon performances by the Yellow Designs Stunt Bike Team. Adult participation costs $195 and youths 15 and younger can ride and eat for only $25. Lodging deals are available to all participants.
