BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says gunmen have attacked a soccer game north of Baghdad, killing a policeman and a Sunni Muslim allied with the U.S. against al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The military says Sunday’s attack near Duluyiah also wounded three others, including a 9-year-old and a second member of the local U.S.-backed awakening council.
Maj. Peggy Kageleiry, a U.S. military spokeswoman, says attacking a soccer game is an example of the “barbaric nature of the insurgents.”
Duluyiah is located 45 miles north of Baghdad.
